Meet Marco, Function360’s rehabilitation specialist and sports massage therapist. Marco has worked within a range of different rehabilitation settings, which is where he gets his skill in delivering tailored rehabilitation programming to those with injury and those looking to optimise sports performance:
“No human face is exactly the same in its lines on each side, no leaf perfect in its lobes, no branch in its symmetry. All admit irregularity as they imply change; and to banish imperfection is to destroy expression, to check exertion, to paralyze vitality. All things are literally better, lovelier, and more beloved for the imperfections which have been divinely appointed, that the law of human life may be Effort, and the law of human judgment, Mercy.” ― John Ruskin
I have spent the last 10 years studying & developing my understanding of the human body through Sports Therapy, Sports Massage, and through Osteopathy which is now my specialist practice. My practice has now become a philosophy, a way of thinking and seeing the human body. We often hear patients wanting to feel or look ’normal’, my job is to interpret what ‘normal’ means to you.
As human beings, we are unique and asymmetrical. What is normal? Normally cannot be definite as such, because we all differ as a human being.
Throughout my experience, I have developed a deep understanding of concepts surrounding these ideas. This is why when I treat, I do not tend to base my treatment on any standardised procedures. Instead, I create tailored treatments, I adapt techniques to each individual body needs and tissue response.
Here are a few of my favourite moments when it comes to treating patients:
- Seated Thoracic Spine Articulation is a wonderful technique to improve the quality of movement, easing-off restriction and muscle guarding.
- I love working on Ribs when I treat, we often forget how we use the diaphragm to breathe.
- Dorsal Springing is another ‘must try’ technique to improve thoracic compliance. It is gentle and effective.
